Closing Deals With My Red Nokia
I wanted to be a Banker. I liked suits. They wore them. Done deal. I asked my dad to show me how to tie my tie. I planned to be sharper than Gekko on my flight to Los Angeles with my Nanny. It was Brenda and her small time 'now' Banker. I had a red Nokia phone too. A blue blazer, a golden tie, shiny shoes, and my Wall Street Journal to match.
The flight attendants smirked. Some chuckled. Maybe they thought it was funny. Or cute. I wouldn’t know.
I was busy imagining my future. I’d show them. One day, I’d be traveling the world, closing deals, shaking hands, making it happen. They’d see.
Well...
I've only been to New York once. I never became a banker and I have a single tie that I inherited from my Old Man. My Nokia? You know how that story ends. But.
I do travel. I am taller.
The flight attendants don't laugh now. They welcome me aboard like everyone else. Maybe I travel because I dreamed it. Or maybe those dreams were whispers from a future I couldn’t yet understand. Either way, the plane takes off.
